Here Comes September
My favorite month! Things start to cool down, birthdays to celebrate, and other good crap like that.
Roxanne started her first day of high school last week. The event was surprisingly without drama. She made the Central High School Volleyball team, so suddenly my little life-sucking child is completely booked. School, then practice until 6 p.m., then homework, then a coma. Then there's parent meetings, fundraisers, and games even. And let's not forget her cell phone that is on fire with teenage socialite texting 24 hours a day.
Now that she's settling into a routine here, I'll go back to San Diego. Teaching a 2-day InDesign Professional Training course and trying to make up for all the people I blew off when I was there for the entire month of July. Much work remains to be done with the Ford Foundation, feel like I've let those duties slip for too long. Only planning to be in San Diego for a week this time, not sure how I'll cram in all the plans. Must get up to Long Beach for another Terminal Island appearance as it's been entirely too long since my last visit there as well. I'm looking forward most to being reunited again with not only my precious FX, but with Pheobus. I've really missed his gigantic fury body up in my business all day long.
Then back again to Illinois for another 2 weeks. There is a tentative booking for me to teach again in San Diego the end of September but that's yet to be determined! There's another dreaded birthday in there too, besides my nephew's. Great.
June 2008; A Month or More of Limbo
I must also comment on my views of Indiana lately. The best airfares have been out of Indy, and it's an easy drive from my home town in IL. It's quite a beautiful stretch, especially this time of year. Don't know why I never realized this before. While I was in the midwest this last time, we had a ridiculous amount of rain, wind, and tornado warnings. I had only heard snips on radio news about flooding in Indiana, but when we took off from the runway in Indy I got the Presidential Tour view of just how much water was standing in that area. Holy Cow. So much for those crops.
Anyway...I am hoping my state of limbo, here and there, undecided future...will simmer down soon. I've opened up my career search to the entire western and northwestern states, anywhere lacking massive tornadoes or hurricanes. The one exception is interviewing with the University of Illinois recently, my alma mater, my home town, and the crawl space I frequent due to the borderline irrational fear I have of tornadoes. We'll see!
